Project Description
Location: Burwood Highway, Vermont South, Melbourne, Victoria
Duration: 6 weeks onsite
Cost: $332,000
Date: 2021
The retaining walls were built to a VicRoads specification, project #13561. The VicRoads specification called for concrete sleepers that were 2.36m long x 0.3m high x 125mm thick with 3 x N16 reinforcement bars. The design also called up pier cages and relatively deep embedment up to 3-4 deep. The wall retained a shared user path adjacent to Burwood highway and a Melbourne water reserve. Due to the site’s proximity to a water course, when drilling some sections of the retaining wall, ground water was encountered, and pier casings were required..
